Normally this month at school, we would be discussing alcohol awareness. Because alcohol is somewhat culturally acceptable, many people don't realize the horrific effects alcoholism and alcohol abuse can have on our physical and mental health. Last year, we put up an alcohol awareness booth in the lobby, participated in a mock car accident to show the serious effects of driving under the influence, and health classes learned some very interesting facts about alcohol abuse. This year, I am going to try to continue to raise awareness as best as I can.

I will likely devote a post to this in the next few days, but one of the awareness activities we participated in at the school was compiling a list of "natural highs". That is things in life that makes us feel good, naturally and without a substance. Understand that a lot of times people rely on substances to trick ourselves in to thinking that we are "feeling better." It is important now, more than ever to mention that a substance will not only help you to feel better during this time, but it is likely to have some significantly more negative consequences than you were intending. Stay productive, stay sober.
