Tech Support

A Mentoring Program at Vo-Tech.

Want to volunteer to be a mentor to younger students?

Do you feel that you have what it takes to be a positive support for someone else?

Could you benefit from having a positive friendship or a mentor?

Tech Support is a Program in Student Services where older students may apply to become a peer mentor and if approved, can help to create positive relationships with younger students in the school.

Studies show that peer mentoring has a positive impact on students, regardless of whether they are the mentors or the mentees. Some benefits of having a peer mentor include: enhanced self-esteem and self-confidence, connectedness to the school, feelings of support, increased communication skills and interpersonal skills; and as a result, a better outlook on their adolescent years.

At CMAVTS there is a program where 11th and 12th grade students are screened and selected to mentor younger students that might benefit from a positive relationship with another student. Mentors are continuously trained and supervised by counselors. 10th grade students are welcome to apply but preference is given to qualified 11th and 12th graders.

Qualified mentors will be matched up with a “mentee”. Even though the “mentees” can be in any grade, Tech Support is especially perfect for students who are beginning their high school career at CMAVTS. Sometimes it’s an adjustment to get used to a new school or to form lasting relationships.
