We have to kick off Mental Health Awareness Month a little differently today. In previous years we have signed pledges to be stigma free at our school. I am very excited that this year, we have the opportunity to expand awareness virtually! Feel free to learn more about stigma below, then share this post with the caption "I pledge to be stigma free!" Don't want to share? Click on the "heart" symbol below!!!

What is Stigma?

-Judgement

-Discrimination

-Rejection

-Bullying

-Using labels such as: crazy, nuts, insane, psycho, etc.

-A diagnosis should NEVER be used as an insult or joke.

Why is stigma a problem? It creates a barrier for people to open up and reach out or seek support for fear of being judged.

Playing a Role in Being "Stigma Free"

-Avoid labels

-Use respectful (person-first) language

-Correct it if you hear it!

-Offer support

-Educate yourself (and others)
