"Life is 10% of what happens to me and 90% of how I react to it."
Resilience is the ability to bounce back from adversity. Adversity can mean many things to us as it is different for each individual. If the recent state of our society has made you adjust your day-to-day life, that is considered "adversity". Resilience is the ability to adapt. It doesn't mean there aren't going to be moments when you feel frustrated, a little hopeless, or upset. It means that even though you have these feelings, you still try your best to "make the most of it" and get through. EVERYONE is capable of resilience, but some people might need extra assistance, and it takes a LOT of internal work. Remember, the cool thing about our brain is that with hard work and dedication, we can train our brain to have a better "internal dialogue". Meaning, over time we change eventually learn to feel more secure and stable with uncertainty and confusion. That's why they call it resilience building. Here are just a few tips for resilience building:
-Talking to a professional in order to learn and gain skills
-Staying active
-Taking care of yourself, have boundaries
-Spend some time each day doing something productive
-Positivity and attitude change (if this is hard for you, do some skill-building) sometimes the easiest way to start is just to SURROUND yourself with positive inspiration and humor
-Stay away from negative media outlets, know your resources
-Have a good set of coping skills
-Goal setting! Now is the time for reflection
-Do some things for others so that positive energy can be created and shared...this also includes empathy building (understanding others)
It's OK to acknowledge negative emotions, in fact it can be perfectly healthy, just don't let them stay with you...acknowledge and then move on. Feel free to contact me with the google form on the homepage for more resilience building!
